With most of us homebound, it struck me how much kids used to enjoy playing with toys like these. They just needed a bit of space and imagination. Nothing fancy, no screens in sight. I took the photo at a fair last year. I didn’t adjust the colour, the toys are a bit garish but that was part of their attraction.

    I see toys I know, oh my! They were certainly made much better back in the day. I like your photo in both color and B&W!

    This takes me back to my great grandmother’s home and the old fashioned toys I loved to play with as a young girl. Tinker toys, etc. Great photos!

    I think the subject works best in color. I too see some that look familiar. I saved my son’s Matchbox cars … only $2? Thought they might be worth something one day!

    Vintage toys and collector’s items, especially the double cassette deck. Could have been at one of our garage sales, haha. Nice photo! Lots of colours.

    You mention how “garish” the colours are yet that is part of the attraction. I sense that we have entered a “drab” period colour-wise in the last few years. When I used to go shopping pre-lockdown, I became aware that most of the clothing, particularly for men was subdued. The colours almost looked washout. I’m wondering whether there is a social commentary there, don’t stand out, don’t draw attention to yourself. Grey had become the most popular colour for walls. Etc. I hope this doesn’t catch on in nature!

    My six-year-old grandson has a formidable collection of little cars and both he and his sister play endlessly with Lego. I am happy to see pictures of them playing in mud – perhaps they are too young to be glued to screens just yet. My older grandchildren derive a lot of fun from their screens: one (in Norway) plays a computer game with her friend in Canada (when their time zones overlap conveniently enough)!
