  3. Lovely photo! I’ve seen a few of these little guys while travelling in North America. We have two spotted species here in the UK, the smaller of which is quite similar to downy / hairy woodpeckers. But it’s rare and likes hiding in the tops of trees.

  10. He’s so sleek. Not a hair (feather) out of place. They often look a bit more ruffled (just a tiny bit).This one looks like he preened in front of the mirror. He makes me think of my nephew when he was six, patting his cheeks with some Buckaroo aftershave for his first day of school.

  12. We see these guys in northern Minnesota too. I am fascinated by their ability to maneuver about on vertical surfaces as if they were walking on an iron-rich surface and wearing magnetic shoes.
