A gardener friend introduced me to these insects a few years ago. She had seen a hummingbird moth at a nursery and I joined her the next time she went. I saw one that day and most summers since. Hovering as they go from flower to flower they do live up to their name.

Lovely shot! I’m fascinated by these insects. It’s been a few years since I have seen one, but I remember the first one in my parents garden many years ago like it was yesterday. Great that you caught that beautiful pink under-wing.

They are amazing in the way that they can maneuver their long tongue in the air while flying. It’s not easy to freeze these movements in the picture, but I think you succeeded really well. Congratulations!
