STOPS ALONG THE WAY

FALL CROCUS (TWO PHOTOGRAPHS)

I was surprised to see these crocus growing in a friend’s garden. It’s a flower I thought only grew in the spring, often pushing through the melting snow. For a second there I thought we had skipped winter and gone directly into spring 😏.

  1. Beautiful images, Belinda, and lovely to have those purple colors in fall. You did make me laugh with the thought of skipping directly to Spring, it brought the game Monopoly to mind ….do not pass go, do not collect $200…

  2. I’ve seen the flowering over here too. In a couple of gardens around here. I don’t ever remember seeing them before as if the bulbs are just recently available. Lovely flowers. Your photos do them justice.

  3. I guess nature is confused, also here (East Belgium) some crocuses are blooming again. Beautiful to see, but it clearly indicates that our climate is changing rapidly.😏

  4. Perhaps these crocuses know something we don’t. They are very beautiful.

  5. I thought they were only spring flowers, too. Confusing weather patterns?

  6. Fall blooming crocus are a different species from the spring blooming ones, though their foliage emerges in spring and dies back, the flowers don’t come until fall. The herb Saffron is from the stamens collected from Crocus sativus. These are beautiful!
