I like to watch bees as they work their way among the flowers. This one had just gotten started as it hadn’t pick up much pollen yet. I took this photo with a long lens, you can get quite near to the insects without disturbing them or getting too close for your own comfort.

No need to fear being close to foragers! I’ve become used to using the wide angle zoom for bees collecting pollen or nectaring. I’ll get the glass within 6” of them for a crisp macro—they do not see the big black round thing as a threat. Try it some time. 😀

Most people have no idea that females (wasps and bees) will only sting when defending the nest or when defending her own LIFE. Many times, that fear results in someone else’s (usually not the human) premature and unnecessary death. In foraging, it’s only food and collection on their minds … no kids!
