DAMSELFLIES (TWO PHOTOGRAPHS)

After photographing certain subjects for a while you begin to anticipate their behaviour. In the case of damselflies (and dragonflies) they tend to return to the same perch you might have startled from as you approached. So if you don’t get the shot the first time your chances are good the second time around.

As the damsels are so long and slender, the temptation is great to go for the lateral view to get as much of them as possible in focus, which is why an alternative approach–your first one–can be so rewarding. Nice stuff.

Great captures and l love the perch at the end of the leaf on your first image, Belinda. Nice to get something a little different!

That’s really good to know about the return to the spot. They sure have a unique look – a bit like an alien. (Not that I’ve ever seen an alien – that I know of). Very nice closeup photos!

Great photo, these are the color of fly I remember as a boy, landing on me while was rowing in the boat. Fun!

I’ve noticed the behavior of them returning to the perch, made me feel like it’s teasing me. 😏 Great shots, Belinda!
