With its algae covered back, you have to be lucky to spot a snapping turtle swimming through a murky pond. I didn’t have a polarizing filter so the photo might have been sharper but I managed to get a decent shot. I think this turtle was quite young as it wasn’t as large as some I’ve seen. Not the prettiest kid on the block but certainly one of the more interesting.

He would be easy to miss. Glad you got such a nice shot of him. He looks old and weathered but I suppose the adults must be much bigger! Very cool to see, Belinda.

They move through the water without causing a ripple, I was lucky to see it. Thank you, Jane.

Good catch, Belinda. These turtles are kind of scary, I give them a wide berth whenever I see one. 😉
I always think about how many millions of years they’ve been on the planet… at least 100 million … Respect!

I think he needs a bird or some kind of fish to nibble off the algae. Good picture!

He’d probably try to eat them if they tried 😏. Thanks!

Depending on the beholder, this may actually have been one of the prettier ones. One may never know.

I was looking at the water’s surface when the vegetation suddenly sprung a head and legs 😊. These turtles are extremely well camouflaged.
