It is a risk many migrants take. First arrivals get dibs on the best nesting sites, but if too early or a big storm hits, the odds are tougher. I expect this one timed it right. ๐
Ohhh Yes…… the last couple of night 23 (-5C) and a sleet storm. We have a winter for maybe 1 1/2 months but these temps and sleet are rare. The last was 2016. That year we had 6 inches of snow, on the ground for 6 days.
We also had a circus LOL. They do the bread and milk thing here too. But ends up in a ditch when people here learn 4 wheel drive pickups don’t do as seen on TV ๐๐คฃ.
Itโs cold everywhere. A friend just went to shoot at night in Death Valley. It was below freezing with 40 – 50 mph winds๐ณ๐ณ๐ณ. Needless to say no tripod long exposures. Wind would take the gear across the Pacific. ๐

You have to wonder about these early arrivals but they seem to make do.

I hope it warms up for you folks.
(We had 1 1/2 feet of snow last week [47cm] and the temps are struggling to get out of the -20sC ๐).

It happens every year; at least there was grass to eat with the melting snow.

Just as with robins and bluebirds, here in WMass we have a small contingent of year round Canada Geese.

In Eastern Ontario Canada Geese migrate south in this part of Ontario. A good thing too, itโs the coldest January in years โ๏ธ
