The painted turtle is the most common turtle at our local reserve although they share the waterways with snapping turtles and the rarer blanding’s turtle. I’ll be looking for all three when the weather warms up.
This post reminds me of the little pet turtles my sister and I had as kids. We got them at Woolworths 5&10. Later they banned them because they often carried a disease.

Bigger than my pet turtle was (from childhood days), but a nice size. I’ve always liked turtles.
