WHAT’S IN A NAME May 15, 2022 by belindagroverphotography 14 Comments Despite the heat, I just felt cooler looking at the plant growing in the shade. Its common name is Bleeding Heart, not a name I would have chosen for such an attractive plant. Like this:Like Loading...

I love these flowers, we’ve got a some in our garden. Every Winter do I think it’s completely gone. Then the next Spring it’s back a vengeance.

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” 😉 It’s scientific name makes ‘Bleeding Heart’ seem so easy: Lamprocapnos spectabilis!

I rather like the suggestion of ‘broken heart’ and agree it is a very pretty flower.

The name has come to mean a lot of things that have little to do with the plant, but it is very pretty, and of course it has the heart-shaped flower.

That’s often the case with the common names of plants. It is pretty regardless.
