Chicory was introduced to North America and you see it growing in meadows and on roadsides later in the summer. Many varieties are also cultivated for commercial use.
It has a delicate design in the center with those little tentacles, and such a lovely colour. Even the zigzag ends of each petal add a daintiness to it, like someone took pinking shears to it.
Thanks, Belinda. I knew about chicory, but I had never seen the flower up close and your photo allowed for that, so I’ve learned a new appreciation for this flower.
I love chicory. I used to see it in the amazing hay meadows of Romania, and it sometimes shows itself in southern England too. Not quite cornflower blue, more like a late afternoon sky.
What a beautiful shade of blue! There are some chickory farms not all that far away from us, yet I have never been past that area when the plants are in flower!

I don’t know much about chicory, but I’ll be on the lookout from now on. Very interesting center, petals. Beautiful color.

It’s very common here wherever there’s a bit of soil. A very pretty flower.

They are a lovely shade of blue and line many of our roads, especially dirt roads. Close up shop in the afternoon.
