Often seen at feeders, I spotted this house finch on a footpath close to a housing development. They are not native to Eastern North America, they were introduced in the 1940s and have become well established.
Ours are all gone now for the winter, but even this spring and summer, we didn’t have as many as usual. Something is happening to our songbirds. Their numbers are really down. Your photo is very nice, Belinda. Always such sharp, clear shots.

Wonderful photo, Belinda. House finches are so pretty with their red heads, and this is a lovely composition with the bare tree limbs framing him.

Very cute little bird even if it’s outside its natural range. I’ve just been looking up the story of their arrival into eastern North America.

It’s always disturbing when we notice less of a particular species. Glad you enjoyed the photo, Anneli. Thanks!

Ah, no idea how to call her. Thanks for sharing. I just know she’s amɔɔr, or a sparrow.
