The bird was guarding a neighbour’s front door. Pigeons are disliked by many for their messy ways but they are intelligent birds and this one definitely had presence.

His stance looks like he is ready to do battle! Pigeons, Rock Pigeons in this case are a serious problem around Las Vegas. There are companies here that specialise in removing them and their nests. I can’t use a seed feeder in my backyard because of the pigeons landing in a swarm to devour the seeds. Hence, I feed Hummingbirds exclusively.

I often see a pigeon or two at this entrance. They’re quiet and don’t seem to leave a mess 😏

I like this photo a lot. As a composition and with your commentary it conveys a lot: the idea of lonely duty, the acceptance of a harsh reality, patient waiting. Great picture.
