I caught sight of this American Wigeon through a break in the trees. My only sighting this year. It must have been resting up on its migration south.

Yes, we have lots of widgeons (or wigeons), but not very many wood ducks. I think I’ve only seen glimpses of one or two wood ducks ever, but thousands of widgeons.

Oh he’s a beauty! I love their eyes. They always looks so cute to me. I was out birding yesterday doing my first Big Day and saw two female American Wigeons, no males. I hope your beauty finds his way here to keep the two females I saw company this winter. 😊

The ducks are missing…I mean there are none 😵💫. Storms or other man made nonsense is takings its toll in the Lowcountry. We are a major resting or migration site with plenty of space for them. 😡

I do too. This is an area in the southern US known for it’s wildlife. It would be a crime.
