Nice photo of ring-necked ducks, Belinda. They do have a ring on their bills but they are called ring-necked ducks (aythya collaris), probably for the faint change of colour on their neck. The name could be confused with the ring-billed gull (Larus delawarensis). Anyway, they are beautiful ducks.

The names are very close. When I googled ring-billed it came up ring-necked, so that mistake has obviously been made plenty of times before.
