Red-winged Blackbird June 10, 2026 by belindagroverphotography 10 Comments There were a number of Red-winged Blackbirds at the park when this young one landed quite close to me. I believe it’s a juvenille male. Like Loading...

I haven’t seen a juvenile blackbird in a long time. They’re so pretty especially watching them fly. Great capture, Belinda. 😊

Of course, my eye was drawn to the tree… 😉 Did you have a hard frost during blossom time? Something is not right with that branch!

We can have hard frosts well into May, I didn’t notice much damage elsewhere.

That is a very dark RW Blackbird that isn’t showing the telltale red patches, my guess is you are correct on your ID with that thick sharp bill. For some reason I do not see many juvis when I am out in the field

I love their call. It sounds like they’re saying, ” Purple LEAder.”

I love hearing them in late March, they’re one of the first to return.
