STOPS ALONG THE WAY

Another Merganser

Last week I featured some female mergansers sunning themselves. The same day I took those photos, I saw a younger duck swimming further out (which is where I usually seem them). Mergansers are diving ducks that feed on small fish and crustaceans, I got several photos of her as she came to the surface.

And with lovely “hair”. I find it fun to see them sometimes a bit disheveled. 😳🤓😏

They’re always a good bird to see.

We occasionally see them in our river, males in early spring and females later, sometimes with a raft of babies in tow. Those brown fluffballs are delightful!

Nice captures, Belinda. I don’t see the mergansers on the shore very much; they’re always so busy diving and eating!

They’re such pretty ducks in their own way. I have some photos of very young merganser ducklings. Unfortunately I didn’t have a good camera with me and the photos aren’t great. But seeing the ducklings was great. Your photos are really nice, Belinda.
