Nice shot and he does look a bit guilty! It is really interesting how melanistic squirrels dominate some North American cities. Maybe the gene wasn’t present much in the founders of our British population but the vast majority of our eastern greys are, well, grey, whether they are urban or rural.

Thank you. Their dark fur is an advantage in our cold climate as they can absorb more of the sun’s warmth in the winter 😊

Nice catch of a curious black squirrel! We sometimes see them around here, too. Though I haven’t seen many squirrels (or chipmunks) this summer… I’m wondering if our summer resident broad-winged hawk might have something to do with that? 🤔
