The weather today is cold, grey and wet. I thought a scene like this was a good antidote. The duckling was exploring his new surroundings. There are a lot of predators of these young birds and I wished it well as I walked along.
Nice capture of this little fellow, Belinda! It’s somewhat amazing that any of them survive as they go bobbing along oblivious to everything but eating it seems.

Thank you Ellen. It is pretty remarkable given the odds.

Such a pretty little bird. It’s hard to think about them being picked off by predators.

They are very vulnerable yet I’ve seen them skitter across the water at terrific speed when they need to.

It’s a good thing they’re fast.

It looks vulnerable all alone – although I imagine it wasn’t really on its own.

It was swimming with another duckling. I didn’t see its mother but she probably wasn’t far.
