I’m glad the old tree wasn’t any higher! Sometimes birds find their way right to the top of a tree making for tricky photography. Wonderful bird, wonderful tree, what’s a bit of a sore neck after all. 😏

So many creatures like to play “king of the hill.” That’s a nicely composed image of the woodpecker with the tree and the vine.

My nemesis: the Brown Thrasher.
I see him. I hear her.
They flash past on my walks.
Never still when in view.
Never in view when perched.
It forces me to enjoy each moment of their spectacle, live and in-person.
Which I must, ’cause I’ll never get a shot of one.

Unless a tree is likely to fall along a pathway, this nature reserve leaves them be. They continue to play a role even at the end of their life cycle.
