The Iris was vying for attention with the Prairie Smoke, a curious almost whimsical native plant. Later in the season the seed head of this flower produces whispy strands that look like smoke. Pollinators love them.
Oh, so pretty. I’ve never seen Prairie Smoke flowers and didn’t realize they were so small until I saw the purple violet in the center to size them. I might try to get some seed to sow for here.
From your title, I was expecting elderly ladies in fashionable hats. I’m delightfully surprised. I’d love to see a closer study of the blossom at extreme upper left, if possible.
