HOUSE FINCHES

The bright head of the house finch caught my eye, I didn’t see the less colourful female when I took the picture. Most finches I’ve seen are more rosy coloured. This one must have found a good crop of red berries as diet can effect their colouring.

  1. So cute! We have the similar Cassin’s Finch at our feeders here in Colorado.

  2. Before I knew that they were finches I thought a sparrow had gotten it’s head somehow in some paint – LOL

  3. The tinge of red certainly stands out and makes these birds (the males) look attractive. Together they make a lovely looking pair.

  4. Nice catch, Belinda. I love their songs, so melodic. Occasionally, I see them here at the feeder, but often get them confused with purple finches and have to look them up! 🙂

  6. Pretty pair, Belinda. I do like the side glance the male is giving you. 😀

  7. I’m thinking: Maybe I should eat more berries–although would the new growth on my head be red?
