STOPS ALONG THE WAY

BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON

With their tucked in necks, these herons often look like they’re skulking around. I took this photo in early spring so it was easier to get a clear shot. This becomes tricky later in the season with all the greenery.

  1. Yes, nice open placement of the heron and successful competition. A lovely subject wonderfully captured!

  2. Great out-in-the-open shot, Belinda! They are always hiding when I spot them!

  3. Nearly monochromatic… we forget how lush and green things will become with new birds arriving daily. 🙂

  6. They look like they’re skulking around because they are! Pretty bird! We don’t have these out here, that I know of. We have great blue herons, and that’s about all I see. You’re so lucky to have a variety of them.
