With their tucked in necks, these herons often look like they’re skulking around. I took this photo in early spring so it was easier to get a clear shot. This becomes tricky later in the season with all the greenery.

Nearly monochromatic… we forget how lush and green things will become with new birds arriving daily. 🙂

They look like they’re skulking around because they are! Pretty bird! We don’t have these out here, that I know of. We have great blue herons, and that’s about all I see. You’re so lucky to have a variety of them.

They are fun to watch, really patient birds too when hunting! We are fortunate that they spend the warmer months here.
