STOPS ALONG THE WAY

SHADOWS AND REFLECTIONS (TWO PHOTOGRAPHS)

I took both photos in downtown Ottawa. New construction abutting the old. This high-rise will be another added to the collection of unremarkable structures that take the place of buildings such as this lovely Art Deco style building.

Excellent reflection, Belinda. One thing these glass behemoths are good for. Love the Art Deco door.

There has to be someone out there who can design an interesting looking yet practical building as opposed to cookie cutters. A theater near me has been restored outside and inside to reflect it’s 1927 Art Deco style.

That is a crazy cool reflection shot, Belinda! But I agree, I love the old stone buildings much better.

I love the reflections, but I doubt those new all glass and steel buildings will withstand the test of timeless classic beauty that the stone and brick buildings have.

It doesn’t stop. Here in Charleston the ‘progress’ is non stop. Being an old and historic city visitors come from everywhere. So of course we build more hotels and tourist spots… leaving less of what they came for in the first place 😂.

While your first photograph is fantastic, it is a sad indictment of the ugliness of modern utilitarian architecture that forms a blight on our urban scapes. Surely, one cannot help thinking, some redeeming features such as balconies or interesting panels of some sort could be introduced to soften the harshness of such buildings. This is another example of your fine eye.

The top photo is beautiful, Belinda and I still agree that Art Deco is more attractive. Have a look at our Hoover Dam. ❤️
