Sparks Street is a pedestrian mall in downtown Ottawa. It’s a mix of office towers, shops and restaurants. I liked the old fashioned sign and the chairs stacked up waiting for the Cocktail Hour.
Sparks Street sparked a memory. When I was in my teens I used to hear ads on the radio and a voice would say, “This is Lotta Hitschmanova or the Unitarian Service Committee” and then they would tell the address as being on Sparks Street. This is one of those ads that stuck in my mind for all those years and your mention of Sparks St. sparked that memory.

I do too! They will be able to accommodate a good sized crowd 🙂

Neat image, Belinda. The B&W gives it a cool, vintage feel.

Thank you, Eliza! The sign was in pink, I debated leaving it that way but didn’t in the end.

There is a commemorative plaque of her outside the USC building on Sparks Street. She founded the Canadian arm of this humanitarian agency.

She must have done a lot of good works. Her name was burned into my brain for decades from the many ads I heard on the radio.
