My favorite Woodpecker! Always reminds of Woody. Fortunate to have several of them living in our woods, although a bit startling when you get woken up by their morning chatter. Let’s hope this one didn’t annihilate that tree by itself ha.
We actually had a couple appear several years ago as our cherry trees fell into decline (and were eventually removed). Actually didn’t mind them “working away” during their stay. Beautiful photo.
Oh wow, what a treat to have such a clear photo of the pileated woodpecker, Belinda. Looks like he or she found a bonanza of ants to feast on. Lucky you to find it! Great photo.

I really like how you captured the tree and all that splintered surface, and of course the woodpecker.

The trees in this reserve keep standing despite the elements. Gentle giants. Thank you, Ellen.

I imagine that it does make it easier and also more easy for the ants to invade. Nice shot, Belinda!
