When I was a kid, on a snowy morning we’d listen to the radio for school closures as we got ready for school in case our school didn’t make the list.
We’re supposed to get 35 centimetres (13.8 inches) by tonight but it wasn’t enough to cancel school.

I remember those mornings growing up in Maine, listening to the radio and hoping…

That’s enough to be an ‘end of the world experience’, even in New England that always has snow 😆, and here in the Lowcountry the once every ten years storm of an inch or two is catastrophic.

If a city is prepared it’s manageable, if not…😣

We had 6 inches in Charleston 8 years ago. We never get snow. There was a single snow plow, up state. The Air Force base closed !! For 6 days.

I guess we really like our plows. In 2024. Ottawa had a snow plow naming contest 😏

And you probably walked uphill both ways going to school when you were a kid, too? Just askin’? SMILE……

Well, yes, but I still use it every once in a while, if just to get some raised eyebrows!

They do a pretty good job of snow clearing in my area but given the freezing temperatures I’m only going out when I have to.

If you don’t have to go break a hip it’s best not to tempt fate. Same goes for driving.

School cancellations were eagerly hoped for, but rarely came, it seems!
That is a lot of snow… I wonder if it is headed our way? We’ve had very little snow so far this season, but that can change quickly. Safe travels!

We didn’t have too many either. It’s more snow than we’ve seen in a long time. Nice if you don’t have to get somewhere😏.

I too used to stay up late at night, and get up early, to await the reading of the school closures. We had our fair share of closures, but sometimes we also got the disappointing news which still sent us off to school albeit an hour or two later. I did a lot of rooting (and praying) back then, hoping for a day outside playing in the snow.❄️

Yikes! 35cm? That’s a lot and schools are still running? Seems a bit much with the roads the way they are. Great winter capture. 😊 Cheers.

It’s been snowing all day, it sure is pretty; traveling in it is another matter. I saw some kids throwing snowballs but wasn’t quick enough to catch it 😊

Almost 14 inches and not enough to close schools, that’s like Michigan when I was a kid! We were tough kids weren’t we? Thanks for adding the conversion to Inches, Belinda, I don’t know the Metric system at all.

My sister and I had the same thoughts, Belinda. When we were kids in the 60s and 70s, we always got a LOT of snow in Michigan. Not anymore. What happened…

Wow! That’s a lot of shoveling coming up. Too bad they didn’t call a snowday for the kids though. Maybe tomorrow they’ll get a snowday?

They did cancel school buses so I imagine a lot of kids missed school. Still, not the 2 ft+ of snow I remember …
