September has been a beautiful month. Summer isn’t leaving quietly.

Late Summer
The flower had faded but the sun still made it glow.
Turn, Turn, Turn
The temperature is getting a bit cooler, so city walks are becoming more comfortable. It’s beginning to look more like fall, the trees are berry laden and their leaves are no longer a vibrant green. I enjoy watching and photographing these changes.
Swirls
I believe this is a tendril of a wild grapevine that was hanging over the path I was walking. I liked its twirls and swirls.
Late Summer Scenes
The dominant garden colour now is a golden yellow, sunflowers and goldenrod taking centre stage.
It’s all relative
Both knapweed and daisy fleabane are members of the aster family. I saw these flowers growing in an empty lot. They’re invasive and crowd out native plants but in their defensive, pollinators like them and they’re very attractive.
Wearing Stripes
I caught a glimpse of the garden through the Porcupine Grass. An interesting plant tthat I’ve never noticed before. Too bad I didn’t see its namesake too😏
Breaking the Rules
I didn’t crop the photo because I wanted to keep all of the background. No rule of thirds here although the flower isn’t quite centred. I only noticed the aphids on the flower’s stem when I imported the photo. A lot of aphids but no ladybugs 😏
Buttercups
I love buttercups but they can be tricky to photograph with their glossy petals. I imagine a lot of you will remember the “chin game” we played as kids with buttercups!
White and Gold
I really like Queen Annes’s Lace and feature it here throughout the summer. We’re entering the final leg of summer though when goldenroad begins to appear (the yellow flower in the background).
Light and Dark
A little fun with spot metering.
Summer’s Palette
The fiery orange of the day lilies mirrors the current temperatures.
On the otherhand, cosmos are the lily’s cooler cousin.
Lacey
I wasn’t the only one to take an interest in these plants. They were growing on the side of the road and not getting munched on in someone’s garden 😏.
June Colours
A quick walk around the block provided a nice colourful garden mix and even a glimpse of a stork (at least the nearest I’ll get to one around here 😏).
Just Dandy
I took this photo about a week ago, just before the Lillies of the valley came into bloom. This one dandylion caught my eye as it stood out among the sttetch of emerging flowers.
Laneway Views
On a recent walk, we turned down a laneway we had never noticed before. Some of the back gardens were fenced off but these two weren’t. The first scene had an expectant air; a flower basket ready to be hung and a child’s toy, on the right, waiting to be ridden. The stone figure below is a watchful presence.
Red Maple
It looks like I might have taken this photo last Fall but this Red Maple is wearing its new Spring colours.
Lawn Daisy
The lawn daisy has become naturalized here and is considerd a weed. Pretty though and pollinators like them. I think they resemble pincushions.
Sweet Violets
These wild violets are among my favourite early spring flowers. They appear unexpectedly among the dry leaves like little gems.
Seen on a Walk
Walking along a neighbourhood path we heard a lot of birdsong. When I looked up I saw this. If the bird had been smaller I could almost believe it was someone’s pet in a cage.
Taking It’s Time
We’ve had a colder than normal start to spring but things are headed in the right direction.
Shadows and Reflection
Enjoying the sunshine while running some errands.
Iced Coffee
We drove by a local reserve to see if there were any animals about. A quick look around didn’t amount to much. On the way back we passed this coffee bar. There’s a small cafe inside but it’s a lot more fun to grab a seat outside when it warms up a bit.
Ice Storm
A nice day to be inside looking out.
Comng Attractions – 3
No tulips yet but things are moving in the right direction. It reached +5C today and snow banks are beginning to melt; I even saw a jogger wearing shorts 😊
Green and White – 3
Another warm weather scene on a cold and snowy day. Not a great fan of winter anymore 😏 .
At the Gate – Two Photographs
I liked the scale in both of these scenes along with the imagination that went into them.
Snow Day?
When I was a kid, on a snowy morning we’d listen to the radio for school closures as we got ready for school in case our school didn’t make the list.
We’re supposed to get 35 centimetres (13.8 inches) by tonight but it wasn’t enough to cancel school.
Open Air Gallery
This pathway along the Ottawa River is well known for its balanced rock sculptures and birds. It always makes for a pleasant walk in the warmer months.
Neighbourhood Walk
This neighbourhood has a lot of old brick houses which I enjoy photographing. Their windows are often covered in this translucent fabric that lets light in and keeps curious eyes out. I liked the street name too, it reminded me of that old T.V. soap opera.
One Day to the Next
What a difference some sun makes. Yesterday when I took this photo near sunset, it was sunny and cold. I caught these clouds as they raced towards the setting sun. Not today though, the sky is a slate grey and it’s cold at -17C.
Snowy Sunday- Two Photographs
The car in the distance has its car lights on, (I took this at 1:30 pm 😏).
Winter begins in three weeks, yet shovels and snow blowers are getting an early start. Typical Canadian weather.
Let it Snow
When I looked outside early this morning the streets were bare. Then the snow began, not too much just enough to pretty things up.
In the Neighbourhood
I don’t tend to post much in the colder months as detachable lenses don’t like the cold (neither do I 😏). As I missed getting out with my camera this fall, I thought I’d get more comfortable using my phone camera and post from my cell. Here’s a view of the skyline from my new neighbourhood.
Early Winter
Just stopping by with a quick photo of the view outside my window. Settling into our new place and will be back later in the season. Hope you’ve all been well.

Walking through an older part of town I came across this house on a quiet street. It looked comfortable and lived in.
People Watching
This litle dog was sitting in the shade watching a group of people doing yoga in the park. It was a hot day, I think the dog had the right idea 😊
Daisy Fleabane – Two Photographs
The daisy fleabane is a native flowering plant with an unfortunate name. In the past, people thought that its aroma would rid their homes of pesky insects. I found these growing in a laneway.
Side by Side
The rose and wild flowers were growing in the same small garden of this house. It is an appealing space that isn’t overly manicured.
