Another scene that signals late summer.
A SLIGHT SHIFT
It is still very much summer but the landscape is slowly showing signs of fall. There’s a bit more yellow in the fields and milkweed pods are opening to release their seeds. I like photographing these changes.
CURLS & EDGES
We recently visited a favourite nature reserve that had a variety of birds the day we were there. After taking a good number of photos, I slowed down to catch my breath and noticed this scene. I’m glad I saw it, there’s a lot we can overlook when our eye is on the “prize”.
BY THE RIVER
On this muggy overcast day, we thought we’d cool off by the river. I shot through a break in trees and was rewarded with this scene.
IN A GARDEN
It seems to be a summer of encountering plants I don’t remember seeing before. It stood out amongst the other vegetation. (I believe it’s goat’s beard.)
LAZY, HAZY DAYS OF SUMMER
It was a perfect Sunday morning.
WATCHFUL
We stopped the car to stretch our legs and I noticed this curious grouping of plants by the side of the road. I wonder if they’re a form of teasel. I’d love to know, can anyone identify them?

SPOTLIGHT
The woods are thick with vegetation now, pleasantly cool and shady. The sun found its way through the bush and illuminated these flowers beautifully.
BY THE LAKE
By the side of the lake the remains of a tree was coming into leaf. It had been battered by harsh weather over the years but still had some Spring in it.
NATURE’S CURVES
On a recent walk, my spouse pointed out the remains of a flower. He said it reminded him of a musical symbol. I had the right lens on my camera (he didn’t) so I gave it a try. I thought the title of my post was pretty apt as it describes the subject as well as the idea that you don’t always have the right gear to capture something that appeals to you.
FOREST FLOOR
While walking along a path looking for wild flowers I spotted this tree stump studded with fungi. As the tree breaks down it continues serves a role in the forest.
SPRING PARADE
Undercover all winter, it’s finally time for the colours and shapes of spring.
RIVER VIEW
Walking along a river pathway, I saw this overhanging branch, with a few of last year’s leaves holding fast. Saving a spot for this year’s crop.
LAZY RIVER – 2
I keep returning to this spot on the Ottawa River. These reflections are a part of the draw.
GARDEN ABCs
I liked the repetitive pattern of these plants. I noticed the frothy substance on one of the plants and learned it was produced by the nymphs of spittle bugs. The mature bugs are no friends to gardeners and are often preyed upon by other insects.

There’s no better place to spend some time.

EARLY SPRING
This is what an early spring day looks like here. We still have a ways to go.
REVERIE
I saw these lupines growing in a wildlife garden. I can’t wait to walk its grounds again.

Not quite yet, I took this scene in April a few years ago. I hope this year things warm up sooner.

The geese posed nicely in front of the beaver lodge. I think it is abandoned as there is no evidence of fresh wood.

The woods still hold a bit of colour. These leaves looked like a streamer strung along the path.
GOLDEN MAZE
The wood was a tangle of thickets and leaves. I’m glad I caught the foliage when I did as there are more leaves on the ground now than on the trees.
FINAL BOW
Some flowers fade sooner than others yet often leave a bit more to appreciate. I thought this was a good example and reminded me of a filagree necklace.
COOLING DOWN
Gardens in fall take on many forms here. This one had a more subdued display than some others in my recent posts. Still, with -C nights and +10C days it’s still looking pretty fine. I even saw a butterfly on a walk today.
FIREWORKS
We’ve been having a spectacular autumn. You don’t have to go into the countryside to enjoy the fall colours. Every tree in the neighbourhood seems to be celebrating the season.
SLOW DOWN
I spent many summer afternoons walking along the river. Scenes like this always draw me back.
PLAY OF LIGHT
I liked the sparkles of colour and textures in an otherwise sombre river reflection. At another time of the day, the light would have made for a different photo.
TOUCH OF PURPLE
Early fall is a great time for photography. Late summer flowers vying for space with the autumn leaves. I liked the way the purple flowers were standing their ground.
HIGH NOTE
Many of us are feeling a little sorry that the warm weather is ending but scenes like this soften the blow 😏.
A SLIGHT TURN
The Sumac is beginning to change colour here. These leaves have a shimmery glow to them.
HOLDING ON (TWO PHOTOGRAPHS)
The temperature’s getting cooler but these flowers are still in bloom, making you half believe that summer is still here.
NEW LEAF
As the seasons begin to shift, there’s still a lot of beauty to capture.
LAND LILY
This plant was growing in a flower bed but reminded me of a water lily. If anyone can identify the plant please let me know.
BUTTERPATS
I saw these attractive late bloomers on a walk the other day. They refused to blend in to the tall grass around them.
