I recently took a walk on a perfect October afternoon, sunny and not too cold. I saw the fence first and then looked up to see this fine old house set back from the main street. The colour version reflected the kind of day it was and I prefer it but it was a shot that I thought would work in b/w as well.
The nights are cold, and despite some warmer daytime temperatures, the gardens are showing the strain.
This figure of a small boy with his ball tucked under his knees has been a subject of my photography before. I’ll be back again when the snow is on the ground to check in on him.
While running some errands, I walked by this building that acted as a perfect canvas for the lamp post and flowers baskets that cast their shadows on it. The sun was very bright and the shadows crisp.
The weather has been very unsettled lately. It makes sky watching a must.
A quick walk around the block provided a nice colourful garden mix and even a glimpse of a stork (at least the nearest I’ll get to one around here 😏).
It’s nice to leave the city and wander through small towns. I enjoy the slower pace, and you rarely have to wait for cars or people to pass before you can take your shot.
These wild violets are among my favourite early spring flowers. They appear unexpectedly among the dry leaves like little gems.
Walking along a neighbourhood path we heard a lot of birdsong. When I looked up I saw this. If the bird had been smaller I could almost believe it was someone’s pet in a cage.
We’ve had a couple of beautiful spring days in a row. The trees are budding, the lawns have turned emerald green and are hosting these lovely scillia everywhere you look.
I enjoy the patina of wooden fences as well as the plant life that usually springs up wherever they do. They are a lot more attractive looking than other enclosures.

The temperature zoomed to double digits today so we grabbed light jackets and headed out the door. A walk in the neighbourhood revealed a bit of spring growth, melting snow and people out enjoying the milder temperatures 😊
We drove by a local reserve to see if there were any animals about. A quick look around didn’t amount to much. On the way back we passed this coffee bar. There’s a small cafe inside but it’s a lot more fun to grab a seat outside when it warms up a bit.

Early for an appointment, I sat in the parking lot waiting to go in. Overhead I saw some crows fly in and took this photo.
The sun made an appearance this morning. We were supposed to get flurries throughout the day but the sun won out.
A sunny day ending on a high note.
We’ve had some unusual weather for January, mild and rainy; perhaps this is the way it will be going forward. In any event, at the end of a dark wet day, this splash of melba mixed with the grey created a pretty effect.
Today began with a fiery sunrise but its bright start faded to this milky sun. It’s the season of short walks, hot tea and books.
Well almost, as both were underway.
The days are short right now but you can usually count on a spectacular finish.
It’s been snowing all day, nature has a way of decorating a tree just right! The red topped sticks you see mark the path to be cleared when (if) it stops snowing 😒
As sunset approaches the sun makes a dramatic appearance in the sky.
We’ve been seeing some interesting and unusual skies lately. When the sun does make an appearance it’s usually towards sunset as was the case here.
While waiting to board the train one summer, I noticed this service dog lying on the cool tile just out of range of the sun- beam. The dog looked tired, but I imagine he could rest up a bit once he had escorted his owner onto the train.

The transition to dusk is so rapid this time of year; a grey day wakes up just before it ends and becomes painterly.
What a difference some sun makes. Yesterday when I took this photo near sunset, it was sunny and cold. I caught these clouds as they raced towards the setting sun. Not today though, the sky is a slate grey and it’s cold at -17C.
The car in the distance has its car lights on, (I took this at 1:30 pm 😏).
Winter begins in three weeks, yet shovels and snow blowers are getting an early start. Typical Canadian weather.
We haven’t seen much sun this month. But there it is peaking through the clouds on a late November afternoon.
When I looked outside early this morning the streets were bare. Then the snow began, not too much just enough to pretty things up.
I don’t tend to post much in the colder months as detachable lenses don’t like the cold (neither do I 😏). As I missed getting out with my camera this fall, I thought I’d get more comfortable using my phone camera and post from my cell. Here’s a view of the skyline from my new neighbourhood.
