There are a few wild turkeys that lurk in the darker corners of this reserve. I’m not fond of these large birds and I keep my distance.ย Given that Canadian Thanksgiving is next week, they might have more reason to fear than I do ๐

They can be so territorial can’t they! I haven’t seen a wild turkey in awhile.

Having only seen domesticated turkeys – and not very often either – I had no idea that turkeys in the wild would prove to be aggressive birds.

They can be, especially in spring.

A couple of years ago the trails at my this park were closed until some aggressive turkeys could be captured and relocated ๐

Youโre right to keep your distance as they can be very aggressive. But yes, they have good reason to be nervous right now. ๐

In this park they tend to appear out of nowhere which is always a bit startling ๐

I would not want to be a turkey at this time of year and not at Christmas either.

Hahaha As a Canadian and someone who snowmobiles, we see them all year round, they are big birds!

Someone passing me on the path let me know they were close by. You donโt want to mess with these birds.

Our wild turkeys, here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, scurry away or fly into the trees. If people feed them, however, they come to think that humans are below them and can attack.

I canโt imagine feeding these birds. They look like they can take care of themselves ๐

I’ve never been close enough to a wild turkey to fear them, they generally are long gone well before me!
