STOPS ALONG THE WAY

BROWN CREEPER (TWO PHOTOGRAPHS)

This was a first for me and the only time I’ve ever seen a brown creeper, so it was pretty exciting. Their numbers are declining in the eastern part of North America, due to habitat loss, so I was particularly happy to see one. It’s called a brown creeper but I thought it looked more like it was hugging the tree as it foraged for insects.

He’s a beauty, Belinda, with lovely colors. The tree he’s creeping on rounded out a great image.

Beautiful shot, Belinda, congratulations on a new lifer! I’ve always consider myself lucky to see one, they blend in so perfectly with tree bark. 🙂

Sweet capture, Belinda. I rarely see these secretive little birds with the bottom-to-top hunting style.

One of my favorites. I suspect they often get missed because they are so well camophlaged.

How lucky you are to get this picture. I looked up brown creepers and found out that besides insects they also eat spiders. That makes me happy. My mom always said, “Don’t kill spiders. They do a lot of good.” But I always wondered, what will we do with all the spiders that will be left. I find them creepy. So that’s what we have brown creepers for. They eat creepy spiders. I think I might have seen these birds here, but I may be confusing them with Bewick”s wrens which we have quite a few of. Bewick’s wren has a stripe on the side of its head the creeper does not. Nice photo.
