This was a first for me and the only time I’ve ever seen a brown creeper, so it was pretty exciting. Their numbers are declining in the eastern part of North America, due to habitat loss, so I was particularly happy to see one. It’s called a brown creeper but I thought it looked more like it was hugging the tree as it foraged for insects.

Beautiful shot, Belinda, congratulations on a new lifer! I’ve always consider myself lucky to see one, they blend in so perfectly with tree bark. 🙂

How lucky you are to get this picture. I looked up brown creepers and found out that besides insects they also eat spiders. That makes me happy. My mom always said, “Don’t kill spiders. They do a lot of good.” But I always wondered, what will we do with all the spiders that will be left. I find them creepy. So that’s what we have brown creepers for. They eat creepy spiders. I think I might have seen these birds here, but I may be confusing them with Bewick”s wrens which we have quite a few of. Bewick’s wren has a stripe on the side of its head the creeper does not. Nice photo.

I would have to agree with your Mom, as long as I don’t see them in my house 😏.
Brown creepers have a very distinctive way of moving along a tree, I’ve not see any other birds do the same.

You’re a better person than I am, Belinda. My mom used to get a dustpan and scoop the spider onto it and take it outside. Interesting about the way creepers move on the tree.
