I’ve only ever seen a thrasher a few times and almost missed this one as I was at quite a distance from it. They’re a common species but not to me 😏. Thrashers are in the same family as catbirds and mockingbirds.
I’ve never seen one, I guess they aren’t common up north where we live. For being far away, you got a great shot! I’ve read that they have a nice song.
A lovely bird, I can see the resemblance to the Northern Mockingbird which is very common in Las Vegas. I see and hear them daily. They have the odd habit of continuing to sing after dark. I like to see them in flight with the white stripe on top of each wing. 😊
I find hearing a bird carrying on at night a bit odd, yet very nice. I can’t recall hearing any bird chirping after dark back in Michigan. All of these tiny dinosaurs are so different!
They are amazing mimics, too, very similar to mockingbirds. They also have their own song, as well; very sweet and clear. I used to see (and hear) them when I lived in Alberta but not here in BC. I don’t think the west coast is in their range. Great photo.

They’re (supposed to be) common in the eastern and central US and Canada. Thank you!

I’ve heard of them but I don’t think we have them around here on the west coast.
