Great capture, Belinda. A fun tradition, but I always figure that winter will go on for 6-8 more weeks, regardless of whether its sees its shadow or not. π
Damn Pennsylvania rodent, saw its shadow. SIGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Early springs and less shoveling (although this year it’s been minimal snow) is always welcome.
We have a number of forecasting groundhogs, some are predicting an early spring. We even have a lobster in Nova Scotia, who indicates winter will last for 6 more weeks π.
I was looking yesterday at the only photos of a groundhog / woodchuck I’ve ever taken – in Riding Mountain NP in Manitoba. We have nothing like in the UK (although there are marmots and ground squirrels in continental Europe). Anyway, that’s a lovely and rather homely photo.

I miss seeing them. I used to see them all the time on my breaks while on post at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

None at all. I think the ground here is not good for tunnels, no Chipmunks either.

I’ve never seen one in the wild. How cool you have! I read this morning he saw his shadow so it’s 6 more weeks of winter for us.

I’d completely forgotten Groundhog Day. Thanks for the reminder, and for this great photo of a creature I’ve never seen in the wild.
