Late Fall. The playground is silent, the trees are bare, too cold for the kids and the birds! Most of the colour comes from man-made materials, until the temperature dips and the sun comes out. Then there is no bluer a sky or a white so brilliant as the new snow. These are the colours of Winter.

The B&W looks Russian to me.

Thank you Jet. The sun and cold temperatures make for a winning combination.

Interesting color observations, Belinda. The blue of that playground slide seems harshly out of place. I agree with Paz about the “cold and lonely” feel. I hope you get to see some of that lovely bright blue sky soon!

So curious, the color photo, which should look “warm” to us, conveys a certain vacancy, sort of cold and lonely.
The monochrome photo “feels” warmer, as if the park is inviting us in, to pull our wraps tighter as we sit on the bench, and sip hot coffee as we feed the chickadees.
Merry Christmas,
Paz

You have the magic touch. With a click of your b/w switch you’ve turned fall into winter.

For a long time I didn’t like b/w, maybe because that was all we had in the old days, but now I’m appreciating that some scenes, especially those with texture and patterns, look really good in b/w, and colour often pulls the eye away from those features.
