There’s a wetland not far from town that we drive to a few times over the summer. When we pulled over we saw a solitary Egret fishing. I wasn’t using my longest lens but the 300mm did a fair job. After a few minutes, I looked away and when I looked back the bird was in the air. Look at those legs, pulled together like a diver in flight!

Nice capture of the Great Egret with a snack, all fluffed up and happy with himself. I’m always amazed at their precision when they fly–he gets points for having his toes lined up.

Egrets are such graceful and exotic-looking birds. You’ve got photos there that would make me very happy if I had taken them.

We have wetland near our home, and we periodically get a visit from what we believe to be a heron. Have never gotten close enough to make a definitive call, but when it shows up among the ducks and geese, everybody seems to be getting along just fine. I agree with Anne about the first photo – love that one.

We have several varieties of herons that show up in the spring and summer. Always a treat to see. Thank you!

Both are lovely portraits of the Great Egret. While appreciating the aerodynamics of the second, I really feel attracted to the first photograph.

Thank you, Anne. We’ve had few sightings this year, so I was pleased to get the chance to photograph this wonderful bird.
