The vein in the leaf made the title of this post easy. I’m not a fan of yellow jacket wasps and usually head in the opposite direction when they’re flying close by. In this case it was a cool morning and the insect seemed lethargic, so I took these photos with little worry.

We used to be inundated by them so much that we couldn’t enjoy sitting on our deck, but in the last two or three years, they have disappeared except for a few. I would be glad, but it also makes me think maybe something is happening because our bees are also not as prolific. Your yellow jacket photos are excellent!

They can be very pesky. Once at a BBQ one wouldn’t leave me alone to eat my meal. I ended up giving it my hot dog 😏.
It is troublesome though to hear that their presence is in decline.

Really nice detail. Way closer than I usually get/want to get to these. Great title for the post.

Thank you. I was about 5 ft. away. A 300mm lens is great for close up photography.
