Ring-billed gulls don’t overwinter here, and will head towards the Great Lakes or the Southern United States when the cold sets in. They are very common during the warmer months and when seen outside the city, in a natural setting, are quite attractive birds.

Great shot. I love the water in its various states, and it does give the appearance of being cold.

The b/w photo really sets the mood. My first thought was, it’s getting colder.

It does look that way when the water is rough. I went there on a really hot day and felt cooler instantly.

We get lots and lots of them in the winter. They should be starting to show up soon.
I like the nearly monochrome look of this image. It feels like it was a winters day, and I like the light on its breast.

Thank you, Deborah. It’s nice to see an individual bird as they usually hang out in large groups. When they move on it means winter is close so I’m not eager to see them go. 😏
